PhD Student Excellence Scholarship Awards 2017/18

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to invite applications from excellent students with original research proposals for the University of Strathclyde Student Excellence awards commencing in October 2017.

The awards cover full Home/EU fees and a stipend at current RCUK rates. (International students can still apply and pay the fee difference.)  You should have, or be expected to obtain, a first-class honours degree and/or a master’s degree with distinction. 

The award is for full-time study and three years duration only. 

The HaSS Faculty offers high quality facilities within its purpose-designed Graduate School premises https://www.strath.ac.uk/humanities/graduateschool/ and world-leading training through the University’s PG Certificate in Postgraduate Researcher Development (see: http://www.strath.ac.uk/rdp/pgrcredits/)

We are able to offer 5 awards. The awards will be made in each of the following subject areas:

  • 1 award in English, Journalism or Creative Writing
  • 1 award in History
  • 2 awards in Law and Legal Studies
  • 1 further award in any of the following subject areas: Counselling, Creative Writing, Education, English, European Policies, History, Journalism, Law, French, Italian, Spanish, Government and Public Policy, Physical Activity for Health, Psychology, Social Policy, Social Work, Speech and Language Therapy.

Eligibility

You should have, or be expected to obtain, a first-class honours degree and/or a master’s degree with distinction and an original research proposal.

How to apply

 All applicants must apply online (http://pgr.strath.ac.uk/) for a place on the PhD programme at Strathclyde by the closing date.

In the ‘Funding’ section of the application form, please write ‘SEA scholarship’.

You should upload the following documents with your application:
  • A  500-word research proposal
  • A 2-page CV, including your academic achievements and any professional experience.
  • Academic transcripts

You must also arrange for two academic references to be sent, by the closing date, to hass-scholarships@strath.ac.uk

 Applicants already holding doctoral qualifications should not apply.
