The University of Strathclyde has been announced as the winner of the 2020 Whatuni Student Choice Award for the ‘Local Life’ category.

The best 'Local Life'

Voted for by students, this award is for the university which gives students 'the best lifestyle outside of lectures'. The awards are designed to help students make informed decisions about their university choices.

Welcoming the award, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, said:

“We are really delighted that our students have recognised Strathclyde as the University with the best local life. Our focus has always been on the whole university experience and with a campus in the heart of Glasgow city centre, one of the UK’s most vibrant cities, we have so much to offer our students.

“We are committed to delivering the highest quality learning and student experience and today’s Whatuni award is a terrific endorsement of Strathclyde’s approach to supporting students through their studies and student life. Our focus on health, safety and wellbeing alongside our great education programme and ongoing investments in our campus will ensure Strathclyde continues to flourish in this area.”

Kayla-Megan Burns, President, Strath Union, said:

"It is absolutely fantastic news that Strathclyde has received this award! It is amazing to know that our students genuinely enjoy coming here.

“No matter where you are, university is about so much more than just your degree - it's about the journey of getting it, and this is a really wonderful affirmation of our efforts at Strathclyde to provide the best journey possible."

Multi-award winning University

The University of Strathclyde is the current Times Higher Education University of the Year, and is the only university that has been awarded this prestigious accolade on more than one occasion. It is also the Sunday Times Good University Guide Scottish University of the Year 2020. The University was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace earlier this year.

This is the first time that Strathclyde has won a Whatuni Student Choice Award. Ten UK institutions were nominated in the ‘local life’ category in this year’s awards.
