Continuing professional development

Continuing professional development (CPD) is the way in which people maintain knowledge and skills related to their professional lives. CPD programmes can be found in most organisations, as a way of ensuring the development of skills, training and practical experience of employees.

CPD at Strathclyde

At the University of Strathclyde, we’re one of the UK’s largest providers of CPD, with 34,000 people taking part in our programmes at any given time.

Our four faculties, Humanities & Social Sciences (HaSS), the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the Strathclyde Business School, offer specialist CPD programmes, providing high-quality knowledge transfer and support for a wide range of industries.

Ways we work together are:

  • customised – programmes are designed to meet your strategic needs and objectives
  • collaborative – we invest in a long-term partnership that supports your development agenda
  • impactful – we’ll build a shared vision of success and measure impact
  • knowledge exchange-based – our programme offers effective industry/academic partnerships

We run courses and conferences throughout the year on a range of topics, and in some cases can be commissioned with flexible delivery to suit professional needs.

The aim of CELCIS is to 'improve the lives and strengthen the welfare of all looked-after children in Scotland.' Find out more about how the CELCIS programme works.

Strathclyde & Babcock

Academics from the Strathclyde Business School have worked with Babcock International Group, the UK's leading engineering support services company, to set up the BIG Academy. The academy provides a learning programme to enhance the leadership, strategic planning and commercial skills of Babcock’s senior executives and managers.

John Howie, Executive Sponsor, Babcock Academy, said:

The partnership with Strathclyde works so well because they tailor it to our company. Together, we have provided the senior teams in each of our divisions with a toolset and knowledge that have helped shape our corporate strategy and improved collaboration across the business.
