New findings in research on strength recovery of recycled glass fibres

A fourth year student working in our research group has been recognised by the IMechE for the high quality of his work over the 2015-16 session. Ross Anderson’s honours year research project titled “Strengthening thermally conditioned glass fibre for composites recycling” was judged the best amongst the 122 projects of the year.

Supervised by Dr Liu Yang and PhD student Sairah Bashir, Ross made a significant contribution to our research into chemical treatments that may be used to regenerate the strength of glass fibres that have been weakened due to thermal recycling of composites. Following the success of this project, Ross has continued his studies in this area by choosing to undertake an Advanced Research Project as part of his 5th year masters studies.
