PhysicsPhD first/second year progress

At the Department of Physics, we hold an annual Postgraduate Conference. All first year postgraduate students present a 15-minute talk, while second year students present a poster paper.

First year students must also prepare a 3000-word report. Second year students complete a brief report outlining progress to date, their research programme for the third year and a tentative thesis plan. Both first and second year students also have a viva voce exam with a small committee consisting of their supervisor, counsellor and a viva chair.

The purpose of all our procedures is to provide helpful and constructive guidance to try to ensure that all postgraduate studies follow through to successful completion.
