Our department is currently ranked 2nd in the UK for Accounting & Finance by The Times Good University Guide 2013 and the Sunday Times Guide and 4th in the UK in the Complete University Guide Subject League Table for 2013. Financial Times Ranks Department as top MSc Finance programme in Scotland
In the Financial Times' Pre-experience Masters in Finance Programmes Survey 2012, the department has retained its top ranking in Scotland. The results show 94% of graduates who were looking for work obtained jobs within three months of completing their programme.
Excellence in meeting Student Expectations
Our average student satisfaction rating by the NSS for Accounting and Finance over the past 4 years is 96% with a high for Accounting of 99% and 97% for Finance. This means we are consistently ranked as one of the top Accounting and Finance Departments not only in Scotland but also the UK . Business School No.1 for Research
Strathclyde Business School has been rated No.1 in Scotland in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008
5th in Europe
In Chan et al. (2007) our finance research in 21 top journals over the period 1990-2004 is ranked fifth in Europe. Full details.
Top 5%
In Heck et al (2009) studies of the most prolific authors for that past 50 years in Finance and in Accounting have shown that 4 of our Professors are in the top 5%. With 10 or more appearances in 26 core journals.
Accounting Accreditation
You can study Accounting in combination with a range of business subjects at Strathclyde. In the majority of study combinations, Accounting is fully accredited for entry to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) as well as offering exemptions to other professional bodies, eg Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
Research / Teaching Strengths
The main research strengths of the department are in finance and critical accounting theory.
The Department also offers a very successful PhD Program that is supported by the ESRC, and our range of Masters courses provides an excellent basis for research work in finance or accounting. Many Graduates have gone on to complete their Phd Degree at Strathclyde and are to be found teaching finance in Universities both in the UK and the rest of the world.
Our Undergraduate degree programme with principal subjects in Accounting / Finance are also very popular, with the majority of graduates going on to find relevant professional employment.
