Born and raised in Pakistan, I graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 2022. Subsequently, I embarked on a professional journey, securing a position with one of the leading software companies. Driven by a deep passion for technology and its transformative potential, I actively sought out opportunities to expand my expertise.

What were your reasons for taking on a postgraduate degree?

I aspire to advance my career in the field of Data Science and Artificial intelligence, recognising that a postgraduate degree will provide me with specialised knowledge and skills to excel in my chosen career path. I realised my passion for technology and its transformative potential during my undergraduate degree and working in the software industry has further strengthened this. Moreover, I also wanted to take an opportunity for intellectual growth, critical thinking and self-discovery.

How did you make the decision to study at Strathclyde? 

I applied to five universities in the UK and was fortunate to receive offer letters from all of them. Each institution had a strong reputation, making the decision challenging. However, after thorough research, several factors compelled me to choose the University of Strathclyde over the others. Its renowned reputation in Computer Science and Information Systems, was a significant factor. Additionally, the University's modern learning environment, equipped with the cutting-edge tools and technologies, promised a rich academic experience blending theory with practical application. Strathclyde’s history of innovation and research excellence also contributed to my decision. Furthermore, the extensive extracurricular opportunities, robust career services, and impressive global alumni network further solidified Strathclyde as the ideal choice for my postgraduate studies.

What do you like about your course and Strathclyde?

I am particularly impressed by the comprehensive nature of my course, providing in-depth theoretical knowledge, emphasizing practical applications, and ensuring that I am well-equipped with both academic understanding and real-world skills upon graduation. I appreciate the diverse and dynamic learning environment at Strathclyde, the faculty members are highly knowledgeable and supportive, fostering an atmosphere conducive to intellectual growth and collaborative learning.

I am honoured to have been selected as a course representative, which has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the improvement of the academic experience for my peers. This role has allowed me to liaise between students and faculty, voice concerns, and implement positive changes, further enhancing my sense of belonging and responsibility within the university community.

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying my course at Strathclyde and am grateful for the enriching academic experience and opportunities for personal and professional growth that the university provides.

What specialist knowledge/professional skills have you developed whilst studying the course?

The course has equipped me with a diverse range of skills that are highly relevant in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. It has prepared me for working in dynamic professional environments and working on collaborative projects.

What are your ambitions for the future and how do you think your time at Strathclyde will help you achieve your goals?

My ambitions for the future are centred around leveraging my skills and knowledge to make meaningful contributions in the field of data science and technology.

I aim to pursue a career path that allows me to apply my expertise in the field to solve real-world problems and drive innovation. Whether it's in industry, research, or entrepreneurship, I envision myself taking on challenging roles that enable me to make a positive impact and continuously grow professionally.

How have you found your time living in Glasgow and what's your favourite thing about the city?

Living in Glasgow has truly been an extraordinary experience, and I feel fortunate to have had the chance to immerse myself in the vibrant and culturally rich tapestry of this city. Glasgow's dynamic arts scene, captivating architectural landmarks, and welcoming atmosphere will forever remain ingrained in my memory. I look forward to continuing to explore and experience all that this wonderful city has to offer.

Has anything surprised you about living/studying here?

Being an international student, the cultural diversity and accessibility of resources have been pleasant surprises, contributing to a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
