In the Faculty of Engineering we are very proud that the hard work of many of our students does not go unrecognised, and a large number of our students are awarded with prestigious awards and prizes for their work, and gain high value scholarships to help them with their studies.

Some of the awards, prizes and scholarships gained by our students in 2012 include;

  • Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering student Peter Dow was awarded Student of the Year at the 2011 SET Awards, he was also jointly named as Strathclyder of the Year 2012
  • Undergraduate students, Simonas Stilius from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Guy Drori and Edward Kay from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, won BP's 2012 Ultimate Field Trip and Best Poster competitions
  • Twin sisters Carol and Claire Forsyth have won prestigious Carnegie Trust scholarships to fund them with their PhD's in Chemical and Process Engineering
  • Twelve students from the Faculty gained prestigious Saltire internships, 30 students throughout Strathclyde were successful, meaning that one third of the 90 gaining internships throughout Scotland were from Strathclyde – more than any other University has gained in any one year
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering PhD student Jeannette Heiligers won the SET for Britain top poster prize for engineering research at the House of Commons
  • Chemical and Process Engineering student Declan Bryans was awarded Low Carbon Undergraduate of the Year at TARGETjobs UG of Year Awards
  • Five students from the Faculty; William Balfour, Graeme Connor, Oswaldo Jose Barrera Martin, Fraser Ewing and Kirsty Shearer, were awarded Fundacion Iberdrola scholarships worth £14,400 a year each
  • Michal Scieszka and Dale Smith from Architecture have won the Architecture and Design Scotland SUST award for Sustainable Design
  • Sir Patrick Geddes Memorial Trust & RIAS Urban Design awards for best UK architecture projects for students Marianne Keating and Cara Shields
  • Advanced Forming Research Centre KTP Associate Graham Smyth was awarded Scottish Engineering, Glasgow Incorporation of Hammermen 2012 Award
  • Incorporation of Hammermen awards in 2012 for students Susie Smart and Mark Henderson from DMEM, Colin Fraser and Kristoffer Miller from EEE and Ciara McGrath and A James Fraser from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
  • DMEM student Susie Smart awarded Prince Philip Prize by Incorporation of Hammermen
  • Francis Tibbalds Urban Design Student award for Architecture alumnus Iain Brodie
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering PhD student Federico Zuiani has been awarded a scholarship of £10,000 by Japan’s leading funding agency, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
  • Five students; Matthew Baird, Campbell Kenny, Luca Mallia-Milanes, Ciara McGrath and Richard Morrison won Royal Academy of Engineering Advanced Leadership Awards
  • Highest number (41) of IET Power Academy Scholarships (only 100 awarded throughout UK)
