The RSA NEW CONTEMPORARIES EXHIBITION, supported by Walter Scott & Partners Limited, represents the RSA’s commitment to promoting contemporary art in Scotland. Now in it’s ninth year, this carefully curated exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see some of Scotland’s finest emerging talent under one roof. Showcasing 66 graduates selected from the 2016 degree shows, this exhibition features a wonderful array of painting, sculpture, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation.

The project can be viewed in the Gallery of student work. It was commended in the Glasgow Institute of Architects Student Awards for design in the final year. It won a Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland Drawing Award.

In the 2017 exhibition the five Scottish schools of architecture are each represented by graduates selected by architecture convenor Charlie Hussey RSA. The RSA New Contemporaries exhibition will be accompanied by a full colour publication. Many works will be available for purchase. The RSA is part of the Own Art scheme, offering interest-free credit for people to buy contemporary art and craft.www.ownart.org.uk.

In 2016 Christine Halliday won the RSA / Walter Scott Award. Christine's entry comprised her Master's thesis project, 'Consolations of the Landscape'. The £2,000 award was presented at the exhibition opening event. This project was also awarded the Glasgow Institute of Architects Final Year Parchment for the outstanding student in Design in the Final Year, plus it was shorlisted in the ARCHIPRIX international competition for the 'World's Best Graduation Projects' 2017. The project can be viewed in the Gallery of student work.
