Biographical Summary

Eric Norris has been employed by Strathclyde University since February 2004 teaching Media and a range of associated creative technologies and computer application programs. He has updated the Faculty of Education’s media equipment and teaching content to fully embrace the digital video and Internet revolutions.

Eric began his career as an Electronics Engineer, employed in the defence industry, working on laser guided weapons systems and thermal surveillance (night vision) cameras for Glasgow based defence contractor Barr & Stroud Ltd. until 1994.

In 1994, Eric founded a new business selling computer-based media production systems for desk-top publishing and music. In 1998, the business expanded to embrace the newly emerging digital video technology, and had by then become a leading provider of training in creative computer applications. In 2000 the business was sold to the national music retailer Sound Control.

In the period immediately prior to coming to Strathclyde, Eric worked for Clyde Productions Ltd., a sub-contractor to Radio Clyde, producing radio adverts and video productions of the station’s public events.

Business Interests

Eric maintains an interest in a successful independent media production company providing services in video production and photography. He also continues to have an interest in a music recording studio which caters for the needs of both commercial clients and community based organisations.
