Dontyne Systems becomes AFRC tier two member

Internationally-renowned gear design company, Dontyne Systems, has signed up to become a tier two member the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC).

This new partnership will allow Dontyne Systems, developers of the Gear Production Suite software package, to bridge the gap between the design and manufacturing of gears - ideal for research and development work programs at the AFRC.

In return, Dontyne Systems will provide the AFRC with software and training.  Having Dontyne Systems as a member fits in with the AFRC’s gears manufacturing strategy and will help AFRC researchers gain additional knowledge in the highly complex gear manufacturing sector.

Dr Michael Fish, co-director at Dontyne Systems said:

It is important that the models of various manufacturing processes are validated to a high degree. This is often difficult in production environments due to time and cost constraints. The excellent facilities at the AFRC can provide invaluable data on the forming processes for accurate production models.

Dontyne has worked with many companies in the gear industry to improve production efficiency and reduce costs in hobbing, grinding, shaping, and shaving. Now, through the relationship established with the AFRC, we can look in greater depth at forming processes. This will enhance our position as the forefront of manufacturing technology in the UK gear industry.  It will also result in significant improvements for those companies investing resources in the research and development programs.”

Mark O’Hare, senior manufacturing engineer at the AFRC said:

With Dontyne Systems on board, we can make significant advances in gears research both in Scotland and internationally.  We look forward to benefiting from its wide range of services as well as helping Dontyne bridge the gap between the design and manufacturing of gears.”
