Personal statement

  • Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
  • And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings

I currently hold the position of Strathclyde Chancellor’s Fellow and serve as a Lecturer at the Aerospace Centre of Excellence within the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. My academic journey in the field of uncertainty and reliability analysis in Aerospace Engineering began in 2015 at the Femto-ST Institute in Besancon, France, where I worked as a post-doctoral researcher under the auspices of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). In 2017, I was honored with the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, which led me to the Leibniz University Hanover. Prior to my role at Strathclyde, I held the position of an Associate Professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology. I obtained my doctoral degree in aircraft design from Beihang University in 2015.

My research topics are uncertainty quantification, stochastic model updating, numerical verification and validation, especially in the application of complex aerospace engineering dynamics. In particular, I focus on probabilistic techniques such as advanced Monte Carlo simulation, approximate Bayesian computation, and reliability-/risk-based optimisation. My work also covers structural dynamics and vibroacoustics in the fields of experimental modal analysis, noise/vibration control, and system identification, of course, with the consideration of uncertainties.

For academic services, I sit at the AIAA Technical Committee of Non-Deterministic Approaches. I am serving as the Associate Editor of three international journals: the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A Civil Engineering, and Part B Mechanical Systems, and the ASME Open Journal of Engineering.
