Personal statement

I am currently Professor of High Voltage Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, UK. I gained a BSc and PhD from the University of Glasgow and also hold a BD degree from the University of Aberdeen. My research interests lie in the areas of high voltage engineering focusing on electrical condition monitoring, partial discharge, insulation diagnostics, HV asset management, data analytics and communication systems. I am also Co-academic lead for the Asset Management theme at Strathclyde's Power Network Demonstration Centre (PNDC). Recently funded research projects have focussed on power transformers, power cables, HVDC systems, GIS systems, electrical diagnostic measurements, power quality in rail systems and data analytics. My professional affiliations are CEng, MIET and MIEEE.  I am currently serving as President of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) for 2022. I previously served as an elected AdCom Member of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) between 2011-2016, held the position of IEEE DEIS Secretary between 2012-2017, the position of Vice-President (Technical) of IEEE DEIS for 2018 and 2019 and the position of Vice-President (Administration) of IEEE DEIS for 2020 and 2021.
