Overview

The project aims to enhance the precision and robustness of risk assessment processes by synergizing domain expertise with data-driven methodologies. In numerous contexts, accurate risk evaluation is crucial for effective decision-making, yet it often involves uncertain or incomplete data. This project seeks to develop a holistic framework that seamlessly incorporates expert judgement into data science workflows, thus enriching the analytical process and refining risk estimates.

Eligibility

For entry onto our PhD programme we look for a first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in a relevant data science, operational research or management science related subject. We also normally expect a Masters’ degree in a relevant subject, or overseas equivalent. When reviewing your academic achievements, we're particularly interested in grades which relate to independent research (for example, your research project or dissertation).

Project Details

The project aims to enhance the precision and robustness of risk assessment processes by synergizing domain expertise with data-driven methodologies. In numerous contexts, accurate risk evaluation is crucial for effective decision-making, yet it often involves uncertain or incomplete data. This project seeks to develop a holistic framework that seamlessly incorporates expert judgement into data science workflows, thus enriching the analytical process and refining risk estimates. By integrating domain specialists' insights with advanced data analysis techniques, the project aims to derive more informed and accurate risk assessments. Through the fusion of quantitative data and qualitative expert opinions, the project aspires to offer a comprehensive view of risks, capturing both observable patterns and subtle nuances that might evade conventional methods. The potential impacts of this research are significant, spanning industries like finance, healthcare, and environmental management. The proposed framework could empower decision-makers to navigate complex risk landscapes more adeptly, embracing uncertainties with a balanced perspective. By fostering collaboration between experts and data scientists, the project ultimately endeavours to create a synergy that not only advances risk evaluation but also strengthens the foundation of decision analytics. Through this integration, the project aims to elevate the quality of decisions made in the face of uncertainty, contributing to more resilient and informed outcomes.
