e-RAD online radiation records system

eRAD is an online web application allows effective management and reporting on radioactive substances held at multiple sites within an institution. It allows management and reporting on radiation stock, stock disposal, and laser inventory.

The Technology

Unsealed radioactive substances

eRAD records ordering and delivery of stocks, has extensive tracking of stock usage including tracking of errors ('undo'), allows for the use of temporary stores (e.g. fridge, fume hood) and disposal to various 'bin' types (liquid/sink, short/long, temporary storage, fume hood, scintillant). Decay and activity/volume relations are calculated automatically.

The system includes the option to track parent/child relations for stocks to allow for tracking of dilutions and aliquoting of stocks and has extensive reporting capabilities including reports on holdings by lab/area, isotope and disposal routes.

Bins can be added and reported on to list all disposal made via a particular bin, and bins can be grouped into consignment for recording when they are taken off-site.

Chemical agents and isotope details are also stored on the system so that each stock record is linked to the appropriate radioactive entity.

Lasers

eRAD includes a laser inventory, to allow for the accurate record keeping of class 1-4 lasers.

Sealed sources & monitors

eRAD includes an inventory to allow accurate record keeping of multi-isotope sealed sources and contamination, dose-rate and scintillation monitors.

Training records

eRAD includes a tool to track and manage the workflow for record keeping related to the training of radiation workers.  This can be linked to training activities on Moodle if required.

Key Benefits

  • Allows effective management and reporting of radioactive substances and lasers.
  • Records training of radiation workers.
  • Unlimited institutional users including staff and research active students.
