If you already have an existing interest and experience in genealogy, take your research further with a flexible online degree in Genealogical Studies. The degree programme provides a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of genealogical research, records, archives, and genetic genealogy – with an emphasis on research within the British Isles. There are no formal exams for any of our courses; modules are achieved through completion of assignments and coursework. Download our Postgraduate FAQs and timetables for further guidance and information on this study route.

The University of Strathclyde’s History Department will consider PhD candidates who have a research topic with a genealogical focus. The PhD in History with Genealogical Studies is a research area within History but with co-supervision by staff from Strathclyde Institute for Genealogical Studies, giving you the opportunity to undertake a PhD with a distinctive genealogical dimension to it. (There is scope to do a joint PhD with other departments within the University e.g. Forensic Science).
