Eligibility

For entry onto our PhD programme we look for a first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in a relevant business or social science related subject. We also normally expect a Masters’ degree in a relevant subject, or overseas equivalent. When reviewing your academic achievements, we're particularly interested in grades which relate to independent research (for example, your research project or dissertation).

Project Details

Research questions could be related to hybrid modelling or any of the individual simulation methods. They could be about improving rigour (e.g., validation and confidence building in models), incorporating new ideas and technologies (e.g., integrating other operational research or statistical methods or use of AI), exploring new context areas with novel applications (e.g., health demand behaviour). They can be related to different parts of the modelling process (e.g., conceptual modelling, evidence gathering, simulation implementation). The PhD can be in various different health and care context areas and settings. The Department has carried out systems modelling work in the UK, Africa, and Asia.

The department has done extensive work in this area. For work in the area see the profile pages of Prof Susan Howick, Dr Itamar Megiddo, Prof Robert van der Meer, and Dr Le Nguyen.
