Digital StrategyTheme 6: Developing our Digital Distinctiveness

Our approach to digital development includes continuous innovation, exploration of new technologies and digitally enabled working practices.  We support this by continually investing in the digital skills of our staff.

We identify and investigate emerging technologies, recognising that not all will release a tangible benefit, and implement those that will support the university in achieving its aims.

We take seriously the obligation to share both access to nascent technologies, the lessons learned in their development and our knowledge base with partners and colleagues. We will facilitate student access to these emerging technologies to augment their skill set and build a community of practice that can advise and assist our partners in trialling and investing in novel digital technologies and practices.

6.1: Continuous Innovation

We will continually drive innovation and improvement by developing advanced digital technologies and services.

We will achieve this by:

  • developing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation;
  • monitoring technology trends and research to identify applicable technologies;
  • developing a digital research and development capability in partnership with internal and external partners;
  • providing an environment that encourages and facilitates experimentation;
  • creating a forum to encourage the capture, development and realisation of innovative ideas.

6.2: Demonstrating Digital Value

As a Digital Exemplar, we will both demonstrate the value of digital technology and share our experience to help others.

We will achieve this by:

  • creating a Centre of Digital Excellence to provide access to cutting edge technology and a community of practice, internally and more widely;
  • collaborating with the Institute of Digital Transformation to demonstrate best digital practice;
  • establishing communities of practice to facilitate the adoption of appropriate new technologies and their application;
  • being active in external networks to share the Strathclyde experience;
  • implementing a systematic, evidenced-based approach to demonstrate the benefits and value of our digital transformation.
