MSc Architectural Design for the Conservation of Built HeritageShreya Singh

Shreya, from India, is studying our MSc in Architectural Design for the Conservation of Built Heritage. Find out what she thinks of Strathclyde...

How did you first hear about the University of Strathclyde?

A friend of mine did the same course from Strathclyde, and she motivated me further.

Why did you choose to study at Strathclyde?

Glasgow and surrounding areas are very rich in heritage. With the theory of conservation doing a course from a place like Glasgow would help in practical learning too.

What do you like about your course?

Strathclyde collaborates with local authorities and the lecturers are professionals working in the field of conservation which gives us an insight into the practical field.

What else do you like about Strathclyde?

The student experience at Strathclyde is amazing. The university provides great student support regarding every issue.

What has been a highlight of your time so far?

Various site visits not only in the city but also all around Scotland that not only helps in understanding the conservation practices, also we get to travel around the country.

Also, I was appointed as the treasurer of the Strathclyde Postgraduate Society and we are focusing on making the life of postgraduate students easier and trying to bring them together. I am in love with all the things I am involved in here.

What do you like about Glasgow?

Glasgow is such a friendly city. People in Glasgow are so polite and kind, always smiling and ready to help you out. Although living alone, I feel very safe in the city.

Have you travelled much in Scotland and the UK and where has been your favourite place?

I have been to a couple of places, some were sight visits like Edinburgh, Drumlanrig Castle, various places around the city, while others were with friends. I went on a solo trip to London and with a friend to Edinburgh and these two are my favourite till now. I love going to Edinburgh though, the city is so beautiful you can never have enough of it.

Would you recommend Strathclyde to other people and why?

I would definitely recommend Strathclyde to other students. The University is a great place to be. Not only academically, but the social life here at Strathclyde is also great. This was the best decision I made for my career and I am enjoying each day here.

Any other comments?

To any students out there who are thinking about coming to Strathclyde for their masters, I would say do not hesitate. The University helps you out on each step, from your application to your funding and then when you are finally here. It would be a great decision that you could make for yourself.
