Michael-Sam, from Ghana, is studying an MSc in Satellite Applications (with Data Science). Before coming to Strathclyde, Michael-Sam applied for a UK Space Agency Firesat International Partnership Programme Scholarship. Below, he explains how he felt when he found out he was coming to Strathclyde and what he enjoys most now that he's here.
How did you find out about the scholarship opportunity to come and study at Strathclyde?
I received a communication about studying in Strathclyde with the scholarship opportunity since I have long had the interest in furthering my education in the field of space, satellite operations and their application.
Was it easy to apply for the scholarship?
I believe the process laid down to apply for the scholarship made it easy. I just had to believe to get it.
How did you feel when you found out you’d be coming to study at Strathclyde?
It was one of the best feelings in my life. A prayer and dream come true.
Did you study in your home country before coming to Strathclyde? If so, what differences have you found?
Yes, I did my first degree in Ghana, my home country before coming to Strathclyde. Some differences I have noticed are; anytime I answer to people back home and other countries that I am studying at Strathclyde, I get super positive feedback showing that Strathclyde is internationally recognised, not forgetting Strathclyde's recent recognition as Scottish University of the Year by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020. The teaching staff in my department encourages strong research and, finally, Strathclyde has one of the best sport infrastructures I have seen.
How are you enjoying your course so far?
I am enjoying it absolutely, yes! Everything about the course makes me look forward to doing my postgraduate research.
What do you enjoy most about Strathclyde and Glasgow?
The students' union clubs have great programmes that engage students from time to time. People, and stunning infrastructure, make Glasgow.
What do you hope to do when you’ve completed your course?
I hope to be a valuable asset to my home country and the university.
