Chelbi Hillan completed her Immunology and Microbiology (BSc) at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences and is now progressing on to the Immunology (MSci). Find out more about her experience below.
Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led to you studying at Strathclyde?
I am originally from Kilmarnock and I wanted to move somewhere away from home to study for university but close enough to get home easily. When I came to open days in Glasgow I felt most welcome and excited by students on Strathclyde campus.
Why did you decide to study at Strathclyde?
I decided to study at Strathclyde because I really liked the student life on campus. They also had a really interesting course and the ability to decide which degree course you want to specify in as you go along.

What has been the highlight of your course?
The highlight of my course has been being chosen to go to the Radboud Summer School for a week.
How do you find studying in Glasgow?
I love studying in Glasgow - everyone is so friendly it has become my home away from home.
What advice would you give to someone looking to study here?
My advice would be to talk to some current students and get a feel for the campus by coming to the open days.
What has been your main challenges?
My main challenge has been moving away from home but after meeting some of my best friends I have settled in here so much more.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I am hopefully continuing onto my masters next year and then looking for a job within the research sector.
What specialist knowledge/professional skills have you developed studying your course?
I have learned to network since coming to university - taking part in student politics has really helped me meet new people and build my confidence. I have also developed my presentation skills a lot since coming to university and even enjoying delivering them now.
The best part about Strathclyde is the people. Everyone is really down to earth and helpful.
How is your course helping to enhance your current career and prepare you for your future career?
Studying here has given me the tools I need to go out into the professional world knowing that I was equipped for work
