Prof Miller delivers seminar:' One year On: Scotland and Human Rights Leadership in a Changing World'

On 20 January 2021, Professor Alan Miller offered reflections on the year – and what a year – following on from his appointment as Professor of Practice in Human Rights Law and appointment by the First Minister to co-chair the National Taskforce for Human Rights Leadership in a live webinar.

The webinar (part of the law school’s seminar series, but open to all) focused on the progress being made to prepare a “radical blueprint” for the content of a Bill which will introduce a new statutory human rights framework for Scotland; one incorporating the full range of human rights from the UN human rights system. It considered the impact on this Taskforce process of 20 years of devolution, a decade of austerity, Brexit, Covid-19 and global challenges like climate change, and outlined the role that has been played so far by the Law School and the Centre for the Study of Human Rights law as part of this process and what further role can be played in the future.
