Personal statement

Sophie is a Teaching Associate within the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Sophie completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, then an MSc (Res) in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies at the University of Sheffield. Sophie then undertook her PhD at the University of Bath, after being awarded an EPSRC grant to study the advanced material characterisation of small-diameter, thin-walled metallic pipes and their permanent connections.

Sophie’s research interests include; Material Characterisation, particularly microscale mechanical characterisation of materials. Manufacturing, particularly residual stress formation during manufacturing processes. Joining Techniques, including design and optimisation of joining parameters. Learning and Teaching within engineering education.
