Visits from my family

After not seeing my family for 5 months, they traveled over to China at the start of February. This was an amazing two weeks and a time I will always remember. Sometimes my life here feels so different to what it was like at home and it was great to be able to show my family around Tianjin and take them to the places I know and love.

As well as exploring Tianjin and showing them around the university we also traveled around China, visiting three other cities; Xian ⻄西安,Shanghai 上海海 and Beijing 北北京。

In ⻄西安 we visited the Terracotta warriors and also the great city wall. As it was during the time of the Chinese New Year celebrations the wall was covered in brightly coloured statues with loud music and flashing lights.

After Xian we took the bullet train to Shanghai where we spent a day in the city centre and a day at Disney land. Disney land was full of fun. I don't think I've ever seen so many Chinese people in the same place at the same time and that is saying something!! While getting the subway back to the hotel my family were laughing at how many people were running all over the place fighting to get a seat.

The last place we visited was Beijing.  We were in Beijing for Chinese New Year. Before we traveled here we expected Beijing to be extremely busy but in reality it was quieter than usual as so many Chinese people travel home for the holidays. Our time in Beijing was spent visiting the Great Wall, Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City and saw an acrobatic show.

The Chinese acrobatics was like something I have never seen before! Girls ballet dancing on people's heads and men doing crazy tricks; I found it hard to watch!

On the 18th of February it was time for my family to go back to Scotland, we said goodbye at the subway station and I think many of the Chinese people felt bad for me as my dad ran along the platform waving goodbye, it was definitely easier saying goodbye the second time and I'm really looking forward to seeing my family again in Summer.

I hope you have enjoyed my blog about my family and their time in China. If you have any questions please get in touch :) I'd also love to hear what you all did in class for Chinese New Year.
