Radiation Protection Officer
As the University’s Radiation Protection Officer, Richard is responsible for providing advice relating to both ionising and non-ionising radiations and delivery of radiation safety related training.
He is also responsible for investigating and reporting on all incidents involving all forms of radiation.
Ionising Radiation
The use of ionising radiation at the University is undertaken in laboratories across the campus. The University aims to reduce any potential exposures to ionising radiation to as low a level as can be achieved.
These documents provide guidance to departments on the University's approach to ensuring the safe management of radiation on its premises.
Artificial Optical Radiation
Artificial optical radiation is used across the University campus in a variety of systems. The use of these systems must be controlled by a suitable set of administrative and engineering controls.
The documents in this section provide information on how this can be achieved.
Electromagnetic Fields
Sources of EMFs are found across the University campus in a number of different forms. All exposures to an EMF whilst at the University are controlled by appropriate risk assessments, and where necessary, an EMF action plan.
The documents in this section detail how EMFs must be controlled at the University.
