Why did you choose Strathclyde?

When I came here almost 30 years ago, there really weren't many universities that did a Computer Science degree. Strathclyde’s was really great and I think I’ve used almost every course that I learned here from linear algebra to databases, giving me a strong foundation to start my career.

What has been your most memorable moment from your career so far?

I was at Pixar when Steve Jobs was there so I remember standing next to Steve Jobs holding an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film."

What are your ambitions for the future?

For the past 10 years I’ve been working in the area of conversational AI and we’re still a long way from that working well, we’re nowhere near the Star Trek computer today. So I imagine a world where we can talk effortlessly with the technology that surrounds us.

If you were a cartoon character, what would you be and why?

I worked on Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Cars and The Incredibles. When I worked on The Incredibles, some of the production crew came round to take pictures of my head and they made the model of Mr Incredible from my head. So I am a cartoon character and I am Mr Incredible.
