What you'll learn

This course will introduce learners to the fundamental principles of occupational health, and wellbeing within the workplace.

The course will cover:

  • occupational health & occupational hygiene, & the significance of work-place ill health
  • how ill-health occurs across a range of hazards
  • assessing & controlling chemical & biological hazards
  • assessing & controlling physical & psychosocial hazards
  • recognising the relationships & differences between wellbeing & occupational health

Delivery

This course will begin on Monday 8 April 2024 and will be delivered online via Myplace for 5 weeks.              You can study from your own home at whatever time you choose during this period.

You will work through a range of videos, documents, recommended reading, forum work, and self-assessment quizzes.

Assessment

  • at the end of each week of learning, you will be required to write a 300-word blog relating to the learning that took place that week (70%)
  • at the end of the class, you will complete an online multiple-choice test (30%)

Who can apply?

This course will be of interest to a wide variety of audiences, particularly people who have no formal training in safety-related matters in the workplace and would like to add this to their skills set.

Fully funded places are available for applicants living in Scotland supported by the Scottish Funding Council.

What will I get at the end of the course?

This course is worth 10 credits at SCQF Level 7.

This module can be taken as a stand-alone module or together with Principles of Health & Safety Risk Management and Introduction to Human Factors.
