What you will study and achieve

You will explore how participants can flex and change their communication style to influence others.

Everyone has a preferred way of communicating, but preferred styles may not always suit the individuals with whom the interaction takes place, or the situation.

By adjusting behaviours, individuals can communicate in a manner which will have a greater impact on others, thus being able to influence through negotiation.

This course aims to give participants an awareness of how individuals communicate, highlighting the different styles of communication and appropriate use of the different styles and approaches.

The course will improve participant’s interpersonal skills and increase abilities to communicate effectively.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand their own preferred communication style
  • Understand different communication styles
  • Practice flexing their influencing style to improve interactions with others
Credits and certification

The course is worth 5 credits at SCQF level 7 which you can refer to in any job or academic application. You will receive a formal University of Strathclyde certificate of completion after the closing date of the course.
