Going abroad Short term Global Opportunities

Make the most of your summer by participating in a short term global experience such as a summer school, internship, or volunteering. It's an opportunity to stack the type of experiences you can have whilst being a Strathclyde student.

Why do it?

Participating in a global experience, even for a short term can help you gain a 'global mindset'. That means understanding different cultures and how industries work across borders. It's increasingly what employers are looking for in graduates. Other benefits that are specific to short term opportunities are:

Time

Most short-term mobilities are during the summer, and are usually between 1 to 10 weeks, depending on what you do. They have different start dates so you can choose an opportunity that works for your schedule.

Non credit-bearing

None of these opportunities contribute to your degree, so you have the freedom to do something related to your degree. Or not. Unlike a semester exchange, you do not have to pass and gain credits for your degree. Therefore you have much more freedom to study or do an internship in something that you are interested in that could be related to your degree (for example, a research internship or a summer school class related to your degree). Or not (for example, a language or cultural course).

Cost

Generally, as these opportunities are for a shorter period, the costs are less than a semester or year abroad. We have some tuition-free places at partner summer schools and a small number of Turing-funded opportunities during the summer to assist with your costs.
