Jiafeng Pan

Current position: Research associate, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK

“The 2+2 program has been of immense benefit to me, as the classes at the University of Strathclyde placed a higher emphasis on the practical application of statistical theories. My exposure to a variety of students from different nationalities and backgrounds also helped develop my communication skills. These two aspects of the 2+2 program has been of immense benefit to me in my career in applied statistics, both during my PhD and for my current position as a researcher working on a wide range of health related projects.”

Wei Liu, 2+2 graduate

Wei Liu

Current position: Associate professor, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai, China

“After graduating with the first class honour degree in mathematics and statistics, I secured the chance to continue a PhD study at Strathclyde which was fully funded by the university. The main reason that I was so lucky to get the chance and completed the PhD in three-year time, I think, was due to all the lectures in my last two years of the undergraduate. Those lectures equipped me with not only the theoretical part of mathematics but also some programming skills. In addition, the summer research internship provided by the university during the summer holiday of my third year gave me a great opportunity to have a glance at what the scientific research is. I am now holding an associate professorship at Shanghai Normal University back to my home country, China. And I really enjoy my life and work. I would say without those five years at Strathclyde, I probably never achieve at my current situation.”

Hongbin Xia, 2+2 student

Hongbin Xia

Current position: Analytics manager, Shanghai Lujiazui International Financial Asset Exchange Co.,Lt, Shanghai, China

“I am a data scientist in a Chinese FinTech company, using machine learning to gain insight from data as well as making marketing and operation strategies. What I learned in Strathclyde, including skill set to mine the goldmine of data, help to lay a solid foundation for data-driven thinking and a ticket to enter the big data industry.”

Hongrui Wang, 2+2 student

Hongrui Wang

Current position: Data analyst, Servelec Technologies, Surrey, UK

“I am a data analyst in a consulting company in the UK. My study in the Strathclyde University not just prepared me to handle my daily jobs with solid statistical education, but gave me skills and confidence to explore deeper in the field of data science.”

Yongmei Cai, 2+2 student

Yongmei Cai

Current Position: PhD student, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK

“I joined this 2+2 program in 2013. It was a great experience to study the last two years of undergraduate at Strathclyde. It not only improved my mathematics learning, but also enhanced my teamwork and presentation skills. In 2014, I did a summer internship, during which I developed a strong interest in doing research. I need to thank the University of Strathclyde for offering me the studentship to do a PhD after my undergraduate. I am currently doing my third year of PhD. I really enjoy the time at Strathclyde, the place of useful learning.”

Xi Luo, 2+2 student

Xi Luo

“I am engaged in anti-fraud research in a world top five hundred company, mainly involving fraud strategy and algorithm development. I selected many courses in maths and stats at University of Strathclyde, which improved my logical thinking ability. That is indispensable for my work.”
