Tell us a little about yourself and why you chose Strathclyde University?

My lifelong passion for sketching and observing the built environment led me to study architecture, where I’ve developed a deep appreciation for how design influences the way we live and interact with space. Strathclyde offers a varied and comprehensive course that's helped my interest evolve into a passion, with a strong commitment to creating thoughtful, functional, and visually engaging architecture.

What inspired you to undertake your Architecture Degree/ Research Degree at Strathclyde?

I spent a lot of time researching universities, and Strathclyde stood out to the rest. What particularly impressed me was the online Architecture showcase, which highlighted the progression of work from first to fourth year. Seeing the quality and creativity of the projects was incredibly inspiring and made me feel confident that Strathclyde was a place where I could grow and achieve the same standard.

Tell us about your current work or research you are conducting this year at Strathclyde

I'm currently on exchange in Prague, where I’ve been exposed to a diverse range of classes not typically available at Strathclyde. This semester has been one of experimentation and exploration, with much of my time spent developing new skills and independently learning a variety of software. It’s been a valuable opportunity to broaden my approach to design and embrace new ways of thinking.

What is the Strathclyde community like?

Being part of the Strathclyde community, both within architecture and the wider university, has been very enjoyable. Through joining various societies, I’ve been able to maintain other hobbies and form close friendships. Within the architecture department specifically, I’ve found the community to be incredibly supportive. Collaboration across year groups is actively encouraged, and the strong relationships with tutors and academic staff are incredibly beneficial.

What are your ambitions for the future after Strathclyde?

I'm excited and hopeful about working internationally, as I enjoy immersing myself in different cultures and perspectives. Experiencing diverse approaches to architecture inspires me greatly. Over the past few years, I’ve developed a strong interest in retrofit and conservation, and I’m eager to contribute to real-world projects that focus on preserving and sustainably adapting existing buildings.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying at Strathclyde?

Although the course covers technical aspects, its core remains fundamentally creative, with most of the time focused on design-based work. While having the necessary skills for other parts of the curriculum is important, I believe that strong creativity and an inquisitive mindset are the key qualities for success.
