Confucius Institute for Scotlands SchoolsAdventure with Pandas Resources

On Wednesday 19th April 2023, in celebration of the UN Chinese Language Day 2023, CISS partnered with RZSS and Southwest Jiaotong University to present An Adventure with Pandas marking the return of Edinburgh Zoo's giant pandas back to China.

Over 5000 Pupils joined the event from all across Scotland, with over 90 schools in 18 Local Authorities taking part. During An Adventure With Pandas, pupils took a virtual tour of the Chengdu panda park with panda specialists, saw inside Edinburgh Zoo's panda enclosure, learnt some panda related Chinese characters and took part in our online quiz. The event was co-hosted by CISS Project Coordinator Calum Gibb and FU Jiaming, CET and former VET based in Midlothian Confucius Classroom Hub. Our Mandarin Teacher Xiaoyan Zhou gave a mini Mandarin lesson with games and an introduction to Chinese characters.

Videos from the event are now available, along with a number of resources and slides that can be used in the classroom.
