Kavita Chetty appointed Visiting Professor
The Centre for the Study of Human Rights Law (CSHRL) is delighted to announce the appointment of Kavita Chetty as a Visiting Professor at Strathclyde Law School.
Ms Chetty is a foremost human rights practitioner in Scotland with extensive national and international experience. From 2015-2022, she was Head of Strategy and Legal at the Scottish Human Rights Commission, and took up a new appointment last year as Deputy Director Human Rights at the Scottish Government. Her responsibilities include overseeing the policy preparation of a new Human Rights Bill.
As Visiting Professor, Ms Chetty will, in particular, contribute to co-design of the CSHRL’s Continuing Professional Development work around human rights duties in Scotland, engage with postgraduate students on the Human Rights Law programme, and advise on future public engagement and knowledge exchange projects.
The expertise of our new Visiting Professor, including in the field of human rights capacity building, will be a significant support for the work of the CSHRL and the Law School. Our university has a collective mission of making a socially progressive and positive impact on society and this is a truly wonderful appointment. We are privileged that Kavita is joining us and we’re excited to work together in the coming years.
Dr Elaine Webster, Director, CSHRL
I warmly welcome Kavita Chetty to the Centre and look forward very much to working with her. Kavita has proven herself nationally and internationally as an extremely talented and experienced human rights practitioner. Her legal, policy and academic credentials will be a real asset and in further developing the CSHRL as a recognised centre of excellence.
