These workshop sessions offered by ESHE (Equally Safe in Higher Education) School of Social Work and Social Policy in conjunction with the Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre, for staff members only.

Session 1 - What is Gender-based Violence (GBV)?

The aim of this half day course is to highlight what gender-based violence is, why it happens and will focus on good practice responses.

 We would encourage you to attend this first half day session before attending the full day Responding Effectively to Disclosures of Gender-based violence (GBV) session.

Duration 1 half day on 14 Sept  or 23 October.

Target Audience

This half-day workshop will be beneficial to those who work in a front-facing role with students or staff in a support or advisory role such as in University Residences, Estates and Security services, Human Resources, Student Advice and Health Services, Student Advisors, Occupational Health, Academic Course Administration and Management, Trades Unions or USSA. The course is also suitable for Equality & Diversity Contacts.

The University’s Gender-based Violence Policy outlines its commitment to supporting members of the campus community who have experienced any form of GBV.  GBV can include domestic abuse, rape and sexual assault, stalking and harassment.  Experiencing or recovering from GBV can have a detrimental impact on a person’s ability to work or study.  The University can be a vital source of support for students and staff who are experiencing or have experienced GBV both on and off campus. This course aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence and how it affects the campus community. This interactive course is led by GBV specialists from Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre and will include discussion, exploring scenarios and case studies.  The course is recommended for those considering undertaking GBV First Responder Training: Responding Effectively to Disclosures of Gender-based violence (GBV)

Session 2 - Responding Effectively to Disclosures of Gender-based violence (GBV)

The aim of this one day course is to equip members of staff to respond to disclosures of gender based violence in a way that is timely, appropriate and non-judgemental, and to do this with a clear understanding of the immediate needs of the survivor.

Duration 1 full day on 3 Oct or 7 November.

Target Audience

This one day course will be beneficial to those who work in a front-facing role with students or staff in a support or advisory role who may have to respond to a confidential disclosure about gender based violence. You may be a first responder to a GBV disclosure if you work in University Residences, Estates and Security services, Human Resources, Student Advice and Health Services, Student Advisors, Occupational Health, Academic Course Administration and Management, Trades Unions or USSA. The course is also suitable for Equality & Diversity Contacts.
