Personal statement

David Charles is Head of Climate Operations at the University of Strathclyde. David is a sustainability expert responsible for the development and delivery of a number of the University's Climate Neutral Districts. The multi-award winning Climate Neutral Districts Vision takes a partnership approach to enable ‘scale and speed’ of climate action in Glasgow and region, with people at the centre. In particular David is the project lead for climate neutral district five, developing a programme for a net zero and climate resilient estate. David also manages the day-to-day activities of the Sustainable Strathclyde team. David successfully led the delivery of the SFC funded rooftop solar PV installations on the John Anderson Campus. He supported the design and funding programme that has enabled the delivery of the University’s first energy carbon neutral building in operation at the new National Manufacturing Institute Scotland. David represents the University at the Sustainable Glasgow Greening the City and Green Infrastructure and Transport Hubs. He is a member, and former vice-chair, of the Sustainable Scotland Network. David chairs the Energy and Adaptation Task Group at the University and has oversight for Energy Efficiency, Renewable heat and power, Water Efficiency, Sustainable Travel and Transport and Sustainable Labs.
