Mr Kevin Kane

Personal statement

Kevin is Business Director in the Innovation & Industry Engagement Directorate - within the Office of the Chief Commercial Officer - with a focus on the development of Glasgow City Innovation District (GCID). In addition, Kevin is Executive Director of Glasgow Economic Leadership (GEL) and is the Managing Editor of the Fraser of Allander Institute's (FAI) Economic Commentary, the leading publication on the Scottish economy. Prior to joining Strathclyde, Kevin held senior policy and industry posts in the SDA and Scottish Enterprise, latterly as Director of Policy. Since joining Strathclyde in 2010, he has been Executive Director of Glasgow Economic Commission and then Glasgow Economic Leadership and supports and advises its Co-Chairs, Professor Sir Jim McDonald and the Leader of Glasgow City Council (Cllr. Susan Aitken) . With an undergraduate degree in Economics and Geography (University of Glasgow) and a Masters by Research (University of Tennessee, Knoxville) and an MBA from Strathclyde, Kevin's principal interests are in urban and regional economic development. Kevin has extensive Scottish and international experience, having worked with the OECD and EU. He is a joint author of the OECD report 'Berlin: Towards an Integrated Strategy for Social Cohesion and Economic Development' (OECD, 2003). He was the principal commissioner of the OECD ‘Glasgow Urban Renaissance’ report (OECD, 2002). He was a key contributor to OECD report ‘The role of local economic leadership in a global crisis’ (OECD, 2009) and more recently was the principal author of GEL-sponsored report,'Brexit and the Glasgow economy' (2016).
