Personal statement

I have worked as a Development Officer in Widening Access at the University of Strathclyde since 2006. I have overall management responsibility for the S@S Accelerate summer programme and am in charge of the Social Responsibility Pathway that Strathclyde Business School students undertake as part of the Management Development Programme. I have responsibility for the Widening Access Team’s outreach work with Children in Care, including the Strathclyde Summer Experience residential programme and the University’s work on the MCR Pathways programme. I also run the FOCUS West S3 University Campus Day programme.

My Background

I have worked in Education and Youth Development since completing an MA (Hons) in English Literature at the University of Glasgow in 1995. Since joining the University’s Innovative Routes to Learning team in 2006, I have designed and managed a wide range of educational programmes. I have delivered CPD for teaching staff both nationally and internationally and taught elective modules within the University’s School of Education. I have worked closely with international partner Universities who have replicated Strathclyde’s widening access summer programmes and am in charge of the ERASMUS link between Strathclyde and Sodertorn University in Stockholm. I have a particular interest in the development of University students’ personal and employability skills through working on Widening Access programmes and have developed several initiatives that allow Strathclyde students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Business School to gain formal accreditation for such work.
