What is biology and biological science?

Biology is the study of life and living organisms, divided into specialised fields that cover their:

  • morphology
  • physiology
  • anatomy
  • behaviour
  • origin
  • distribution

Why study biology and biological science?

Biology allows us to better understand our bodies, our resources and potential threats in the environment.

Biology can be useful in many different careers including jobs within environmental sciences, medicine and nursing, science and research.

This is a very broad, flexible and diverse field. Biology also requires a good understanding of the other sciences.
