Creating state of the art facilities for drug discovery and development
The drug discovery and development sector is facing significant challenges – rising costs, long lab to patient timelines, and a growing environmental impact. Strathclyde is tackling these issues head-on, thanks to philanthropic support for the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS).
Opening in 2026, the Sir David Jack Hub will be a Multidisciplinary, Sustainable and Accessible Hub designed to accelerate breakthroughs in life-limiting disease research. Equipped with cutting-edge technology for medical testing and analysis, the Hub will enable the development of new medicines and treatments and assess their impact and efficacy.
This pioneering facility will bring together students and experts across disciplines to create sustainable solutions for global health challenges. It will underpin critical research led by Strathclyde specialists striving to treat and manage conditions such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, dementia and inflammatory diseases, amongst many others.
Beyond advancing research now, the Hub will help attract the next generation of scientists and provide them with the methodology and training to undertake their research in a streamlined and sustainable way – preparing them to lead future innovations in healthcare.
The launch of the hub has been made possible with thanks to generous philanthropic support, including a landmark gift in memory of renowned pharmacologist, Sir David Jack, after whom the Hub will be named.
Additional funding is being sought to fully equip the Hub with the cutting-edge, advanced technology, and realise its vision as a first-class facility.
If you are interested in learning more about this project and/or donating to the Hub, please contact Kirsten Wols, Development Manager, at Kirsten.Wols@strath.ac.uk or our Development Office at developmentoffice@strath.ac.uk. If you are based in the US, please contact the University of Strathclyde USA Foundation, an independent charitable corporation with 501(c)(3) status, at alumni@strath.ac.uk.
Your support will make a significant difference not only to the individual students and researchers using the hub, but to the public who will benefit from its outputs.
