Strathclyde Institute for Sustainable Communities

Unlocking grassroots action for a sustainable future

The Strathclyde Institute for Sustainable Communities' (SISC) mission is to explore the different roles and experiences of communities in the transition to sustainability.

SISC aims to:

  • Assess the distribution, prevalence and scale of grassroots innovations for sustainability.
  • Examine the characteristics of different grassroots innovations for sustainability, the value streams they afford and to whom, as well as the drivers and barriers they face.
Explore the relative strengths and weaknesses of different grassroots innovations for sustainability across different contexts and from a variety of perspectives.
  • Collaborate with practitioners to formulate evidence-based solutions to unlock grassroots action for a sustainable future.
  • Outline transition pathways to sustainability that empower and enrich communities.
  • Connect stakeholders across different sectors and countries, to support the creation, exchange and application of knowledge to support sustainable communities.
