We strive to address as many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as we can, whilst
always working on ways to help us achieve more.

The Sustainable Development Goals were formed in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly, 
with the aim of being fully achieved by 2030. The 17 goals were created to channel global issues and 
provide a “shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the 
future”.

Below you will find the related activity we partake in to fulfill 10 of the goals.

Goal 1 - No Poverty

  • Commit to giving employment opportunities to those that face barriers
UN SDG 3 - Good Health and Wellbeing logo

Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-Being

  • Offer a range of vegan and vegetarian food options
  • Promote our wonderful Rottenrow Gardens to be explored
  • Encourage active travel by bike and public transport to TIC
  • Provide a reflection room
  • Removed red meat from our menus
  • Work with local suppliers to lower carbon footprint of deliveries

Goal 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

  • Prioritise local vendors in our procurement process
  • Encourage collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and external bodies to promote knowledge exchange and economic growth
UN SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure logo

Goal 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

  • Provide innovative technology to allow speakers and delegates to attend virtually
  • Operate a stock management system that records food waste in order to reduce it
  • Limit the number of suppliers and deliveries to lower carbon footprint
  • Promote non branded event materials to increase their life cycle
  • Use digital signage
  • Refrain from printed promotional brochures
  • Offer the ability to host a virtual event, in full or partial, via our online platform, OnAir

Goal 10 - Reduce Inequalities

  • Provide wheelchair access throughout our venue
  • Offer an induction loop
  • Operate gender neutral toilets
  • Purchase Fairtrade tea and coffee

Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • Encourage delegates and team members to walk or use public transport to TIC
  • Promote walking activities within the city for delegates
UN SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production logo

Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

  • Produce bottled water onsite
  • Our tablecloths are made from sustainably certified materials, from an ethical manufacturer, and are laundered in an eco-friendly way
  • Encourage everyone to rethink their need to print
  • Any printed material uses recycled paper
  • Provide recycling stations throughout the venue
  • Encourage exhibitors to bring less display materials
  • Reduce paper consumption via online registration and utilise smartphone apps to access all event information

Goal 13 - Climate Action

  • Encourage delegates to walk from local hotels to TIC
  • Encourage event organisers and delegates to consider group travel rather than single-use travel to get to TIC
  • Encourage event organisers to use nearby hotels, allowing delegates to walk to/from TIC
  • Collaborate with Sustainable Strathclyde team, catering and the TIC team to make our services and products as green as possible
  • Encourage and support our event organisers in making their events as green as possible

  • Removed all single use plastics from our menus
  • Provide sustainable seafood on our menus

  • Supply porcelain crockery instead of single-use plastic items
