Why did you decide to study at Strathclyde?

I first heard about Strathclyde whilst researching top universities in the UK. I found Strathclyde to be ranked very highly for degrees in my chosen field of study, Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

I chose to study at Strathclyde due to the impressive rankings, and because it has a world-renowned engineering department. When researching my course of choice, I was impressed with the course structure, and I was also attracted to the scholarships on offer from the Faculty of Engineering. I was also impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities available for students. When taking all that into account, I think it was an easy decision to study here!

What were your reasons for deciding to study a postgraduate degree?

I wanted to strengthen my knowledge and skillset before joining industry, as I would also eventually like to take up a teaching role, which requires a solid knowledge base.

How have you found the support for international students at Strathclyde?

Yes, there has been lots of support from the staff at Strathclyde, centrally and in my department, and also from other students. I have received enough help and resources to enable a smooth transition to Glasgow and Strathclyde and to make my life here easier.

What has been your favourite aspect about studying at Strathclyde?

The campus and its facilities. There are resources for everyone regardless of how they like to study. Group study spaces, and individual study environments, complete with PCs and nearby cafés make the campus a fantastic place to learn in the way that suits you best.

What do you think of Glasgow/Scotland? Have you managed to do much exploring during your time here?

I’ve explored much of Glasgow and Edinburgh in the past few months. The stories about the beauty of Scotland are true and it has been wonderful to behold. The rain does put a damper on plans sometimes, but the beauty of the country more than makes up for that. The most wonderful part about the country is the people. Scottish people are the friendliest and warmest people I have ever met.

Were there any funding opportunities available to you and if so how did they help?

The Faculty of Engineering offered Faculty of Engineering International Scholarships for international students to apply for, which were worth 15% of the course fees. Recipients of this scholarship, with excellent academic performance, were also eligible to be considered for the Dean’s Excellence Award, which provided scholarships worth both £5000 and £8000.

What are your ambitions for the future and how do you think your time at Strathclyde will help you achieve your goals?

I would like to pursue a PhD and become an academic myself. Strathclyde has wonderful professors who have given me a lot of guidance as to how I should go about achieving my goal. The lab facilities have helped me hone my skills in my field, and there is ample assistance at the University with regards to producing CVs, report writing, and all other technical aspects that help us improve our professionalism before transitioning to the workplace.

Would you recommend Strathclyde to other people and why?

I would recommend Strathclyde to other people, especially to anyone who is thinking about studying my course, as the facilities and resources are top class. The staff at Strathclyde are sound in knowledge and strive to help you achieve your goals in the best way possible.
