MSc Hydrogeology (Distance Learning)Barry O’Sullivan

Barry is a recent graduate of our MSc Hydrogeology by Distance Learning. Here he tells us about his experience as an overseas mature student...

My background prior to the MSc was in Structural and Civil Engineering with a wide-ranging experience in leading design teams on bidding and successfully delivering multidisciplinary projects related to dewatering, over pumping, drilling and remediation. During the 10 years I have worked on dewatering projects in Europe and the Middle East I had searched in vain to find a course in Hydrogeology that could put further strength to my practical working experience. When I found the Distance Learning MSc at Strathclyde, I immediately took the opportunity.

Personally, I found the MSc to be successful and beyond my greatest expectations. The MSc exposed me to a wide range of subjects related to hydrogeology such as treating contaminants, treating wastewater, chemical analysis and theory of groundwater and site investigation techniques. There were many topics I would not have had the opportunity to learn and experience without the MSc and in each case the topics covered both practical and theoretical elements.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing the MSc and would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.
