Tell us a bit about your background…
I am from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. India, and completed my schooling in Dehradun. Since my 12th standard I developed a real interest in legal studies and studied for five years at Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune BA-LLB integrated programme. I then came to University of Strathclyde to undertake the LLM International Commercial Law.
What inspired you to continue in higher education?
I didn’t think that my undergraduate degree would give me sufficient exposure. Moreover there was less opportunities to study international Commercial Law in India, so I decided to do masters at a university overseas. The UK is considered the best destination for post graduate opportunities as there is a bigger focus on research. So I was inclined to do Masters from a reputable university in the UK.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Strathclyde?
I had unconditional offers from four other universities in the UK but I decided to study at the University of Strathclyde as the support system through the Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty is highly encouraging and they provide continuous support for new entrants which makes the admission process much easier.
Did you seek any support during the application process?
Yes, for enquiries and it was excellent.
What has been the highlight of your time at Strathclyde so far?
My highlight is the consistent encouragement available in the class seminars to ensure that each student actively participates. This has helped in building my confidence to speak at any platform. Moreover, receiving international students at the airport and making them comfortable also helped in allowing me to settle down, it felt like home.
What would be your advice for people considering taking the course at Strathclyde?
It is one of the best universities. My course coordinator and faculty members are extremely cooperative and they respond very quickly to any queries you have. The campus is very beautiful and you will enjoy the learning environment in the university. Please don’t hesitate to choose the University of Strathclyde as the next step in your journey in higher education.
What have been your main challenges at university, and how did you overcome them?
So far it has been smooth sailing. I think that career services should make their support more well known to students.
What do you think of the support available during your course?
The interaction in the class seminars, the best quality reading material and the scholarship from the university has all been helpful.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I want to Pursue a PhD in international Commercial Law possibly on “The role of world trading system to protect the interest of developing countries" or any related topic so that I will be able to work in any international organisation or MNE across the world.
Do you have any other thoughts or advice that you would like to share on your course?
I am yet to study the complete course, however I find the content of the first semester very useful and informative.
