BSc Hons Physics – Donghua (4th year)Xin Zhou

I am a senior student at the University of Strathclyde, from China, majoring in Physics, and the programme is Bsc Hons Physics - Donghua, a 2+2 programme that allows me to spend the first two years at Donghua University and the second two years at University of Strathclyde.

Why did you choose to study at Strathclyde?

Donghua University and the University of Strathclyde have had many years of friendship and co-operation. When I was at Donghua University, I attended a presentation by a teacher from the University of Strathclyde. I was attracted by the modern campus facilities and resources as well as the academic excellence and reputation of the university. I wanted to experience the culture of a different country, which is why I came here to study.

What do you think about the University?

The university is located in the beautiful and historic city of Glasgow, the campus is really nice as well. The teachers and staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a wide range of student social activities and organisations. The university has modern campus facilities which provide a great environment for students to study and live in.

Why did you choose to study Physics?

I have always been interested in the workings of nature and its basic laws, and because Physics develops my ability to think logically and to analyse and solve problems. Physics has intersections with other fields of science, and so it is a general subject that I can apply my knowledge of physics to other fields.

What do you like most about Physics?

I like the course Mathematical Physics in Physics the most, it teaches me to use some practical mathematical methods to solve real physics problems, and it will be very helpful for my future physics courses as well.

What are you getting out of it?

I am able to improve my logical thinking skills at the University of Strathclyde. I am also exposed to a rich and colourful culture and meet a lot of friendly people, which has made the experience very memorable for me.
