PhD Title - Multi-stage integrated magnetic gear generator system for renewable energy converters

The power-train of wind and tidal turbines are constantly evolving. Recently there is a shift taking place away from DIFGs to direct drives due to issues with gear box reliability especially as wind turbines move off shore. However direct drive also has its own issues, as we are seeing an increase in converter failure of direct drives over DIFGs. How can the power train be further improved? This PhD will investigate the use of magnetic continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the wind turbine power-train.
