PhD Title - Design of VSC converters connected to variable SCR grids
One of the great challenges facing the renewable energy industry is the integration of renewables to the existing UK grid. This is due to a number of factors, such as reduced inertia and electrical remoteness of resources.
Inverter controllers, which can easily be reprogrammed without significant hardware costs, could be adapted to suit the changing grid; increasing the renewable energy penetration of the grid and allowing for further decarbonisation of electricity. Of particular interest is the increasing number of PMUs (phasor measurement units) in the grid, and how they could be integrated into new controllers.
