We have a very international feel to our Faculty, with over 800 international students from almost 100 countries currently studying with us.
Our academics are also well represented from across the globe with students being taught from academic staff from over 30 different countries.
PhD programmes are becoming very popular in the Faculty, in particular for international students. 50% of our current PhD students are overseas students and around 100 of those students are on fully or partly funded PhD programmes.
Wherever you’re from, we can provide you with opportunities for a truly international experience. Through our strong links with partner universities world-wide, and student exchange programmes, there’s lots of options available.
Scholarships for international students
We offer a number of Faculty and Department scholarships to our international students. These are available for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students and range from £1000 to £4000 per annum.
English Language RequirementsIELTs is the most widely accepted English test
If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your proficiency in English before starting your programme. We accept a number of English language tests as proof of proficiency in English, but the IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) exam is the most widely accepted.
Current IELTS requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate study options are 6.5 overall with no individual band less than 5.5. Some departments accept IELTs 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each element). Contact the Recruitment and International Office for further information. Other tests and grades may be acceptable to the University and you should visit the Recruitment and International Office website for advice on alternative English language tests.

If your proficiency in English is not at the required level, the English Language Teaching (ELT) Department at Strathclyde runs programmes to help, including the Pre-sessional English programme, Postgraduate Diploma in English, Pre-Entry Language Preparation and the summer English for Academic Purposes
