Gerry McGurk graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 1989 with a B. Eng in Naval Architecture & Offshore Engineering.  He is a chartered engineer, member of RINA and the Association for Project Management and attended executive education at MIT. On graduating, Gerry joined BP and embarked on a career that would span over 31 years until early this year when he started his own business, Rockall.

Gerry’s career has taken him around the world on major capital projects to become one of BP’s most senior project leaders.  He’s passionate about major capital projects, the role they play in society, and turning visionary ideas into full scale reality. A “big picture” engineer at heart, he has been privileged and entrusted by investors and stakeholders to lead some of the most complex, innovative, ambitious, multi-billion-pound megaprojects in the energy sector, predominantly in the offshore/marine sector.

The global energy system has changed considerably during the past 30years and is now entering a new era. Gerry will share insights from his experience as a young graduate charting a career with a major energy company, developing skills to lead larger teams taking on new challenges and how he sees Naval Architects and major projects continuing to contribute to the world’s biggest challenges.
