Full Economic Costing (fEC)Guidance for facility managers

Facilities Managers must liaise with the fEC Accounting Manager in order to determine the fEC charge out rate for their facility.

Key Points to note:

  • Facility Managers must provide information on costs and usage to allow charge out rate to be calculated on an fEC basis.
  • The rate will be added to pFACT once approved (for externally funded research).
  • Facility Managers should ensure that each facility has a separate account code where costs and income can be recorded (to be progressed).
  • Facility Managers must keep records of use.
  • The charge out rate calculated on an fEC basis identifies the cost and this will determine the price for externally funded research from Research Councils, Innovate UK and Other UK Government Departments.
  • For other sponsors of research and Other Services Rendered, the fEC rates provide a minimum benchmark for determining the price. The use of facilities for own funded research, PGR students and Teaching is not necessarily charged but records of use should be kept.
